Creating Lessons From Movies with QuickTime Player

Introduction

This lesson will show you how to create ScreenSteps lessons from movies using QuickTime Player from Apple. The free version of this software allows you to copy still images of a movie and place them on the clipboard. Using Auto Snap you can quickly create lessons by copying frames to the clipboard and into ScreenSteps.

You might ask yourself, "Why would I do such a thing?" A few reasons come to mind:
• A PDF file is much smaller than a video file.
• You don't have to record any audio.
• If you made a mistake while recording your movie, ScreenSteps won't care.

Use Auto Snap

Make sure that Auto Snap is enabled.

Open Movie in QuickTime Player

Open a movie in QuickTime Player.

Copy To Clipboard

Choose Edit->Copy from the menu to copy the frame currently visible in QuickTime Player to the clipboard (or use cmd/ctrl + c).

Repeat

Use the scrubber to navigate through the movie, copying frames to the clipboard as you go. ScreenSteps will automatically create a step for each frame you copy.
