Synching Image Names to Step Titles

Introduction

This lesson will teach you how to synch image file names to step titles. The default names that ScreenSteps gives to image files aren't very useful. But by using the Synch Image Names to Step Titles function you can quickly generate useful file names.

This can be very handy for prepping images for a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation.

Capture Some Images

First, capture some images as you normally would.

Reveal Image File

You don't have to do this each time. This is just to show you what the original file names look like. Right click (or control-click) on an image and select Reveal File.

Here you can see that all of the files are named screencapture and some crazy number.

Add Text

Add text to your lesson. What ever text you enter in the step title will applied to the corresponding image file.

Synch Image Names to Step Titles

Select Synch Image Names to Step Titles from the Edit menu.

Reveal File Again

Right click (or control-click) on an image to reveal it.

Here you can see that all of the image files have been renamed. Notice that one is called Step 4.png. That step had no title so ScreenSteps just gave it a generic title representing its location in the lesson.

In the Perferences screen you can set an option to have this happen everytime you save a project.
