Using the Image Editor

Introduction

The Image Editor allows you to quickly crop and annotate images.

Load an Image

You can load an image into the Image Editor using the Capture button, right-clicking on an image and selecting Edit or by double-clicking on an image.

Cropping an Image

Use the Crop Tool to drag over the area you want to keep. In this example I have decided to crop the Start Menu with a little of the desktop showing.

Shortcut: You can choose the Crop tool using the "C" key on your keyboard.

Applying the Crop

Select "Apply Crop" from the Image menu.

Shortcut: Press Return on your keyboard and you will see the crop applied. You can save and apply the crop in one step by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. This will close the Image Editor window.

Add a Highlight

To add a highlight, first select the desired shape. For this example we will select the rectangle.

Shortcut: You can choose the Annotation tool using the "A" key on your keyboard. Press once to choose the Annotation tool. Press multiple times to cycle through the different annotation tools.

Draw Your Highlight

Use the mouse to draw your highlight. In this example I am drawing a rounded rectangle around the Control Panel menu item.

Edit the Shape

You can always go back and edit shapes. Choose the Select tool.

Shortcut: You can choose the Select tool using the "S" key on your keyboard.

Click on the Shape

Click on the shape. It will become active and display resize boxes. You can grab any of these to resize the shape.

Click in the space between the boxes to drag the shape to a new location.

Shortcut: You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the box a pixel at a time. Holding down the shift key while pressing the arrow keys will move the box 10 pixels at a time.

Adjusting the Annotation

Open the Inspector.

Change Line Thickness or Color

You can adjust the colors, thickness, corner radius (used to make rounded rectangles) or opacity of the annotation.

Shortcut: Click Apply To All to apply the annotation properties to all annotations of the selected type on the current image. So, in this example it would update all rectangles with the current settings.

Here is our annotation with a thicker border and a semi-opaque fill.

Close

You don't need to save the image. Just close the editor and press Enter on your keyboard to close the image editor. You edits will automatically be saved.
