Making an Image Smaller for ScreenSteps Live

Problem: Images that have been resized to less than 100% show up larger on ScreenSteps Live.
This is because when images are uploaded to ScreenSteps Live your full size image is uploaded. If the image is too large to be displayed then a thumbnail is created for viewing on ScreenSteps Live. But if your image doesn't go beyond the maximum height and width set on ScreenSteps Live then your image will still show up larger even if you have resized to something less than 100% in the ScreenSteps editor.

We are working on a solution where this won't be the case but until then here is a workaround.

Start

This is the image I started with. I want it to be a little smaller.

Remove Annotations

Remove_annotations_display

For this to work you are going to want to remove annotations before doing this. We know that is a pain. We are sorry. Just select the annotation and delete it.

Here my annotation is gone.

Resize Image

Resize_image_display

Resize the image down. Here I have set it to 75%. It is important to understand that this is a non-destructive resize. ScreenSteps keeps a copy of the full size image as well incase you ever want to change the size again. We are now going to make this a destructive resize meaning that a larger copy won't be kept and thus won't be uploaded to ScreenSteps Live.

Select Export to Clipboard

Select_export_to_clipboard_display

Select Export to Clipboard. This will take the image exactly as it looks and copy it to your clipboard (That is why we took of the annotations since this operation will basically "flatten" the image).

Replace Image

Replace_image_display

Now, right click on the image and select Replace Image With Clipboard.

The image is imported back in but notice that the even though it is the same size as when we exported it the Size setting says 100%. Now when you publish to ScreenSteps Live the image will display in the smaller size.

Like I said previously, we hope to improve this in the near future.
